Fire evacuation!
September was a crazy month. A Wild fire, started by lightening, caused our town of Woodland Hills and neighboring town of Elk Ridge to evacuate our homes. I was a surreal experience going through our home choosing what to keep and what could be replaced. I had been packing for a weekend trip so I had some clothes together. I thought we would be back in our home in a few days. We took our photos journals, and important papers.
I had felt calm as I packed up I left my home in the Lord's hands and closed the door. I prayed for the fire fighters to be safe. We drove to Salem Hills High School where the evacuees met you could see the fire coming down the canyon it was so scary and it became real. Over the next few days many prayers were said our stake had a fast and many stakes all over Utah and the country joined us.
Val and I stayed at Nathaniel and Amber's house. We got to play with the boys which was a blessing. Val set up his office in Nathaniel's office it was fun to see them working together. It was a very stressful time for Val with work.
Our prayers were answered and our towns were saved. We were out of our home for 10 days. We have grown so much as a community. There was so much that we learned from this experience it is hard to put into words. Mostly I am so grateful to our Heavenly Father who gave us our homes back.
The checkpoint to get into our homes. They were escorting people to get things like medication and important things when it was safe. The day I went the winds were to high so I wasn't able to go up.
