Lake Powell - Sail
Val and I went to Lake Powell to spend time with his family unfortunately none of our children could make it. I took my camera and Val took his boat.
Val was coming back from the Philippines so I had to load up everything and meet him at the San Francisco Airport. That was a 8:00 pm we slept in a hotel part way and arrived at Wahweep Arizona at 2 in the morning slept in the houseboat with his family. The next morning we set sail and embarked on our exciting adventure.
We had a great time. It took about two hours to motor the houseboats to our camping spot. That afternoon Val was getting ready to go out on the sail boat with Vaughn. I told Val I would go on one ride with him. I'm not a big fan of sailing we turtled the first time we went out years ago. He tries to convince me that it is relaxing. It's not! I went out with him because I wanted to be with him. Well it was very choppy water and the wind was squirrly. Vaughn was learning how to sail. I feel bad for him because the wind was not easy to learn on. I gave up and asked to go in. Val started driving. We were having to lean way out and then the inedible happened we didn't lean far enough and we all went in the lake. It goes in slow motion I swam over the sail as it went down into the lake then the boat went on top of me Val was there and helped me out. Then I had to hold on to the rudder while Val and Vaughn tried to get it back up. It was turtled which means the mast is straight down into the water. They got it up and were trying to get in and it the wind would push it over again. At one point I lost hold and the boat was floating away they said to hold on to the rope but it was to far in the water and I wasn't fast enough. Luckily Vance was in his speed boat and came by and asked if we needed help the guys said no and I got in Vance's boat. I was glad to be out of the water with hat and glasses intact. Val and Vaughn kept fighting it and got it up right and were able to take it for quite a ride till the mast broke. There was a park ranger boat out by them and took them in. Sad day for Val.
